After a week of being weighed down by a virus, I was getting depressed at the amount of things I have to do to catch up with my college work, not to mention the lack of practice on drawing. When you enter into art college, sometimes the syllabus goes by so fast and makes you learn so many different things and forces you to absorb them in a short period of time… things get rather lost. Things are not as simple as you think it could be. I’m not the best of students, I admit and I had so many stumbling blocks along the way sometimes giving up seems like the most likely of choice. This is where I sit back to think what was my drive when I first started to get into art. Learning new techniques and medium are all good. It’s quite fun too. However, it feels incomplete. I keep grasping around for something. And I realise that when it comes to art, the one true thing, or rather my root, is storytelling. For all the concept art I would do, all the advertising drawings that I would create, my base is always to tell a story. I put it in each work of mine, no matter how little. There is a theme, there is a plot. I take a lot of time thinking and picking the right references to fit the mood when it comes to composition. Right now in my course, I can’t get there yet, it’s another few semesters away. But that doesn’t mean I can’t make stories until that time. So, I will be doing this comic of mine. It probably will be a short kind and I’ll do it during the times at night when I feel things are going sour and motivate myself again to stand and walk.
